2007 APEC: Climate Change, Credit Crunch, and Free Trade
Co-Sponsored by National Center for APEC, US Chamber of Commerce and APEC Study Center Columbia University
NEW YORK - Climate change, the tightening of credit markets, and transpacific free trade dominated the agenda of the annual APEC Summit, hosted this year by Prime Minister of Australia John Howard from September 2 to 9 in Sydney. The APEC Business Advisory Council representatives met with global leaders, and Prime Minister Howard hosted a business summit in parallel to the official talks.
The Asia Society joined the US National Center for APEC in hosting a post-APEC briefing to review the issues discussed at the Sydney Summit and what they meant for the region's future. The program also provided an opportunity to explore how these issues and outcomes might be forwarded by Peru, APEC host for 2008. US Senior Official for APEC, Ambassador Patricia M. Haslach anchors this annual program.
