Shaheen Mistri (Class of 2006)
Shaheen Mistri, CEO of Teach For India, founded the organization in 2009, intending to build a movement of leaders to eliminate educational inequity and a vision to help children attain excellence in education. Today, Teach For India directly impacts approximately 32,000 children across seven regions in India.
Prior to that, Shaheen had founded the Akanksha Foundation in 1991, which serves over 9500 children from low-income communities in Mumbai and Pune. She is now a board member of the Foundation.
Shaheen has also created projects like the TFIx, a year-long incubator program for entrepreneurs who are keen to adapt Teach For India’s model to their context and region in rural areas; the Maya Musical; and the Kid’s Education Revolution - to explore student leadership and create platforms for student voice and partnership. She is the author of two books: Redrawing India and the Miss Muglee Children’s Books. She has been a Global Leader for Tomorrow at the World Economic Forum and an Ashoka Fellow.
