Books, Letterforms and Design in Asia with Kirti Trivedi
MUMBAI, 7 February 2015 –Asia Society India Centre in partnership with Artisans welcomed Professor Kirti Trivedi, Industrial Design Centre Bombay on the occasion of the release of Books, Letterforms and Design in Asia by Japanese graphic designer; Sugiura Kohei.
The talk began with remarks from Radhi Parekh, founder of Artisans Gallery who spoke of the book’s importance and its ability to communicate Asian design to English-language readers around the globe. Published by Marg Publication this book presents a philosophy of graphic Asia design through the dialogues between Sugiura Kohei of Japan and his colleagues Ahn Sang-soo and Chung Byoung-kyoo from Korea, Lu Jing-ren from China, Huang Yung-sung from Taiwan and R.K. Joshi and Kirti Trivedi from India.
It goes into detail about their design interests, contemporary trends, and the aesthetic commonality amid Asian cultures. Originally published in 2005, Trivedi admired Kohei’s aesthetics, his endless creativity, and his passion to create without repetition. Always using fine print in his work, Kohei who was questioned by the selected typography continually said “if people are interested in the work they will use a microscope to view it!”
