[WEBCAST] Executive Briefing | An Update from India with The Hon. Barry O’Farrell AO, High Commissioner to India
VIEW EVENT DETAILSHow has COVID-19 changed India’s economy and how can Australia benefit from and participate in the country’s economic bounce back?
Asia Society Australia warmly invites you to a private briefing with The Hon. Barry O’Farrell AO, High Commissioner to India. While India has acted quickly to control the spread of the virus, the country’s scale, size, and limited healthcare resources makes eliminating the virus highly difficult. India will have to adapt to the virus and Prime Minister Modi sees this crisis as a turning point for India’s economy. While the pandemic’s outcome might increase calls for economic self-reliance, COVID-19 has also highlighted the need to diversify.
This comes at a time of increased Australian engagement with India. In June, Scott Morrison attended a virtual summit with Prime Minister Modi to discuss bilateral relations. India’s response to the India Economic Strategy Report is also due to be released in the coming months. In addition, the various stimulus packages put in place by the government facilitate investments in and out of India. How can we capitalise on that momentum to foster closer ties with the country?
Join us to hear Mr O’Farrell’s thoughts on how India’s experience of the virus will impact our economic and business relationships in the short and medium term and what it means for Australian companies working with India.
Date: Thursday 20 August 2020
