POLICY BRIEFING: Myanmar in transition with Australian Ambassador Nicholas Coppel

Asia Society Australia is pleased to host Australian Ambassador to Myanmar Nicholas Coppel under our ‘Policy Briefing’ series on 27 September in Sydney. 

Mr Coppel will brief Asia Society Australia members and guests on the political and economic developments in Myanmar and its impact on Australia. With experience in the Philippines, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea Mr Coppel has a unique insight into the regional impact of Myanmar’s ongoing economic development.

This briefing will run under Chatham House rule.  Guests will have a unique opportunity to discuss Myanmar’s changing economy and politics.

About the speaker

Mr Coppel is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He was most recently Assistant Secretary in the People Smuggling Taskforce.

Overseas, he has served as Special Coordinator of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands; Deputy High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea; and Deputy Head of Mission in Manila, with an earlier posting to Washington DC.

Mr Coppel holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the Australian National University and a Master of Business Administration from London Business School.
