FORT COLLINS, CO, December 12, 2019 — In this TEQ video activity we observe the Chinese language teacher Hong Yan’s 3rd-grade Chinese immersion class at the Global Village Academy – Fort Collins in Fort Collins, Colorado. This video presents a performance task in which the students from two teams debate whether they should wear school uniforms. The teacher demonstrates several instructional activities to prepare the students for the debate, including using group brainstorms and team discussions. Yan also encourages every student to speak by scoring each team's performance. This helps students express themselves in the target language. (15 min., 6 sec.)
