Leading Australian-Indonesian youth leadership event to be held in Darwin in 2015 with the theme: “Going back to the beginning; from indigenous trade to modern day”.
At a crucial time for the Australian-Indonesian relationship, the Conference of Australian and Indonesian Youth (CAUSINDY) announces this year the conference will be held in Darwin, in partnership with the Northern Territory Government.
CAUSINDY returns to Australia in 2015 after a landmark conference in 2014 in Jakarta. In Darwin, the conference will focus on showcasing new ideas and new speakers around an exciting theme, “Going back to the beginning; from indigenous trade to modern day”. The year’s theme reflects the deep historical links between northern Australia and eastern Indonesia which go back to the seventeenth century and will explore how this past might help build a fresh perspective on what the future holds.
This year’s program is our most ambitious. With our hosting sponsor Northern Territory Government, CAUSINDY will reach-out to engage the local community in the bilateral relationship, hold events with leaders of the business community and demonstrate the NT’s strong ties with Indonesia. This will be in addition to our public events where we will invite high school students to a session with the delegates while conducting a live stream to an audience in Indonesia.
What's CAUSINDY?
An initiative of the Australia Indonesia Youth Association (AIYA), CAUSINDY is an annual event. The conference brings together 30 young leaders, aged between 21 – 35, from both countries. Delegates are selected based on his or her leadership skills, proven track record of achievement, interest and exposure in developing the Australia-Indonesia relationship.
CAUSINDY was first held in 2013 in Canberra, and again in 2014 in Jakarta. We have been able to create a forum for these emerging leaders to build people-to-people networks with each other and connect them to senior leaders from business, government and academia.
CAUSINDY is renowned for its high profile speakers, including businesspeople, ministers, ambassadors and academics. These have included Lippo Group director John Riady, Astra International Director and CFO Simon Collier Dixon, former ambassador Richard Woolcott and Let Gen (Ret) Agus Widjojo, the former Commanding General of Indonesian Military (TNI) to name a few.
“Causindy is a fantastic conference and a rare opportunity for youth interested in the relationship between Indonesia and Australia” said 2013 delegate Jack McNaught. “I can’t think of any other platform that brings together a group of people with so much knowledge, energy and enthusiasm.”
