Architecture of Trade: Asia & the Future of Economic Integration
VIEW EVENT DETAILSOver the past decade, the Asia-Pacific region has been home to some of the fastest growing economies in the world. Fraught with superpower rivalries between the U.S. and China, however, and ongoing tensions among countries such as Japan, Korea and China, closer economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region has remained an elusive goal.
Join ASNC as we bring leading experts from Asia and the U.S. to examine emerging infrastructures of trade in Asia. Experts will discuss the U.S.-led Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the China-led Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) as well as the role that regional powers, such as Korea and Japan, are playing in the construction of a more cohesive trade and investment regime. Can the Asia-Pacific come together to construct a more integrated, mega-regional trading bloc? How are macro-level tensions and geopolitical rivalries in Asia preventing greater economic integration? Will the future of Asia spell greater economic cooperation or destabilizing contestations?
