Ever wanted to learn how to make dumplings at home? Chef Anita Lo and Chef Jenn Louis will demonstrate how to create homemade dumplings, from the soft outer casing to the mouthwatering filling made with the Chef Lo’ personal recipe. This workshop will provide a fun and relaxing atmosphere, suitable for families with children aged 6 or above. Together, families will learn how to fold a jiaozi or wonton. Make sure you bring a container to take your dumplings home, unless you can finish them all in class!
Anita Lo, chef and owner of Annisa in New York City, is one of the most respected chefs in the country, earning numerous accolades for her inventive contemporary American cuisine that reflects her multicultural upbringing and classic French training. Lo, a first generation Chinese-American, grew up with her family in Birmingham, Michigan and fostered an interest in food at a young age. While earning a degree in French language at Columbia University, she studied at Reid Hall—Columbia's French language institute in Paris. She fell in love with the food culture and vowed to return. In October 2011, Lo released her long-awaited first cookbook, which highlights her passion for bringing multicultural flavors to her American kitchen. Her recipes celebrate the best flavors and ingredients from around the world at a time when access to international ingredients is greater than ever before. In October 2015, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama invited Lo to the White House as the guest chef for the state dinner honoring Chinese President Xi Jingping. Lo is the first female chef asked to collaborate with the White House chefs on a state dinner.
Jenn Louis is executive chef/co-owner of two restaurants- Lincoln and Sunshine Tavern- and a full-service catering company, Culinary Artistry, in Portland, OR. Jenn Louis has competed on Bravo's Top Chef Masters, was named one of Food & Wine's "Best New Chefs," and her simple, sophisticated cooking style, utilizing seasonal Pacific Northwest ingredients, has earned her two nominations for the James Beard award of Best Chef: Northwest. Her debut cookbook, Pasta By Hand (Chronicle Books) debuted in the spring, and this fall she will be opening an Israeli restaurant in the forthcoming Freehand hotel in downtown LA.
