Kapo in Jerusalem
VIEW EVENT DETAILSThe 17th Hong Kong Jewish Film Festival
Based on a true story, director Uri Barbash’s (Beyond the Walls) film is a riveting examination of the moral grey zone that Bruno, a former Kapo (block head) at Auschwitz, must negotiate in order to maintain his sense of humanity.
Bruno and Sarah, Holocaust survivors attempting to build new lives in Jerusalem, are troubled when rumors spread about Bruno’s sadistic role as a Kapo. Unfolding in a series of monologues from Bruno, Sarah and the people who knew him during the war, a complex portrait of Bruno emerges that neither exonerates nor condemns him for his past actions.
(Kapos were Jewish prisoners in Auschwitz appointed to supervise the other inmates.)
