Afternoon Discussion with YU YOUHAN, JUNG LEE, CATHY LANIGAN-O’KEEFFE, YUNG SAU-MUI and CHARLOTTE NUNN
Central Harbourfront Event Space, 9 Lung Wo Road
Discussion 15:00 – 16:00
This panel discussion will aim to explore the centuries old relationship between an artist, printmaking as an art practice and the processes involved with bringing a limited edition to market. How does an artist, through his use and choice of media, define his identity and what role does the master printmaker, publisher and museum institution play in assisting this process?
Yu Youhan is one of the most significant artists in China today. An artist unafraid to transform his artistic style, his work mirrors the turbulent societal changes in the history of modern China; his early expressionist works in the 1970s, the pioneering works with abstract “circles” of the 1980s, Political Pop Art of 1990s, pastoral paintings of the 2000s, and the recent re-exploration of “circles,” have had major impacts on art and cultural scenes in contemporary China. Yu Youhan’s work has been exhibited in many international exhibitions and collected widely. Born in Shanghai in 1943, Yu Youhan graduated from the Central Academy of Art and Design, Beijing in 1973 and currently resides and works in Shanghai.
