What We Do

Asia Society is dedicated to understanding Asia and its role in the world. 

With locations across Asia, the United States, and Europe, Asia Society brings together leading thinkers on policy, arts, culture, business, and education for lectures and discussions, analysis and reports, exhibitions, performances, networking and family events, and more. Through this global platform we educate about Asia, share insight about current events in Asia, and celebrate voices from Asia and its diaspora. 

Since its founding in 1956, Asia Society has focused its work across three pillars: Arts & Culture, Education, and Policy.

Arts & Culture

With a focus on visual art, performing arts, film, and literature across Asia and the Asian diaspora, we feature Arts & Culture programming across our global locations. 

At Asia Society Museum in New York, as well as our exhibition spaces in Hong Kong and Houston, we present pre-modern, modern, and contemporary Asian and Asian American art, taking new approaches to familiar masterpieces and introducing under-recognized artists.

Through exhibitions and related cultural programs, we provide a forum for the issues and viewpoints reflected in both traditional and contemporary Asian art, and in Asia today.

Education

Since 2005, Asia Society Education has partnered with leaders and institutions worldwide to tackle one of the most critical education challenges today: how to educate all students for employability and citizenship in a global era. We also offer Chinese language courses to make Mandarin learning accessible in the U.S., as well as educational content for youth and families. 

More recently, Asia Society has sought to build awareness and understanding of the Asian diaspora experience by growing our programming focused on Asian Americans and other communities.

Policy

Asia Society helps policymakers and the public understand Asia by analyzing current events and major policy challenges and opportunities confronting the region.

The Asia Society Policy Institute is one of the world’s largest think tanks focused entirely on Asia, with a mandate to advance international cooperation and effective policymaking for Asia and the world. The Asia Society Policy Institute's Center for China Analysis is a leading source for policy-relevant, objective analysis of China’s politics, economy, and society.  

The Center on US-China Relations explores areas of common interest and divergent views between the U.S. and China.

ChinaFile is an online magazine dedicated to creating an informed, nuanced, and vibrant public conversation about China, in the U.S., and around the world. ChinaFile publishes original reporting and analysis across a wide spectrum of topics in writing, photography, and video.
