Report Launch for "A Clear Opportunity: U.S.-China Collaboration on Clean Air"
On March 28, 2017, Asia Society Northern California (ASNC) hosted two panels of experts to cover the important topic of clean air in China and California. The first panel, titled "Policy and Regulation," featured three speakers: Matthew Rodriquez, Secretary of Cal EPA; Drew Bohan, Chief Deputy Director of the California Energy Commission; and Orville Schell, Arthur Ross Director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at Asia Society. The first panel was moderated by N. Bruce Pickering, ASNC's Executive Director. The discussion focused largely on how China and California are collaborating to improve air quality.
The topic of the second panel was "Green Investment, Technology Innovation and Market Opportunity." The panelists included: moderator Jeffrey Ball, Scholar in Residence and Lecturer in Law at Stanford University; Tonny Xie, Director, Secretariat for Clean Air Alliance of China; John McQuown, Partner, Co-Founder, and Director at Diversified Credit Investments, LLC; and Andy Swanton, Vice President of BYD America. This panel discussed how innovative technology in California and China can be used to improve air quality.
This event also launched Asia Society's latest report, A Clear Opportunity: U.S.-China Collaboration on Clean Air. This report not only looks at efforts being undertaken at the national-level, but also in California, where the state has been at the forefront in the development of subnational collaborations on clean air.
ASNC would like to thank its partners Clean Air Alliance of China and the Energy Foundation. Thank you to ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA for supporting the event.
