Western companies trying to do business in the People’s Republic of China run into a number of obstacles. Some they can address, some they can’t. Beyond addressing obstacles, there are a number of things they could be doing to compete more effectively. But they don’t. During this presentation, Emeritus Chairman of Silicon Valley Bank, Ken Wilcox will outline how Chinese firms are more competitive than Western firms in Asia, and what Western firms could do to become more competitive in the region.
Ken Wilcox is Emeritus Chairman of Silicon Valley Bank and was Vice Chairman of SPD Silicon Valley Bank. Mr. Wilcox was previously CEO of SVB Financial Group, where he successfully pursued a strategy of expansion and diversification, while focused on the group’s core niches of technology, life sciences, venture capital and premium wineries. He is Adjunct Professor at Fudan University, Shanghai and executive committee and board member of the Bay Area Council. Mr. Wilcox was previously a member of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco (2006-12). In 2008, Mr. Wilcox was named “Banker of the Year” by American Banker and “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst & Young in 2009 and 2010. He was presented with the “Magnolia Silver Award” in 2013 by the Shanghai Municipal Government which honors expatriates for their outstanding contribution to the city's economic, social or cultural development. Mr. Wilcox received his MBA from Harvard Business School.
