"Tokyo's Approach to Military Power"
Asia Society Japan Center was delighted to host Ms.Sheila A. Smith to the Asia Society Policy Salon Breakfast. With her new book out," Japan Rearmed: The Politics of Military Power", we were fortunate to discuss with Ms. Smith on how is Japan’s defense policy is shifting? On how Japan has consistently been in the top ten of global military specters since the 1980s. However Japan has always been very careful about how it wants to use its military as an influence.
Discussions followed with Japan’s changing role in the U.S.-Japan alliance, , the alliance coordination mechanism of US-Japan military cooperation, and regional relations with Hong Kong, Australia and China.
