On Tuesday, September 26, Asia Society Northern California hosted Orville Schell, Arthur Ross Director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at Asia Society, and H.-S. Philip Wong, the Willard R. and Inez Kerr Bell Professor in the School of Engineering at Stanford University and former Vice President of Corporate Research at TSMC, for a discussion on the Silicon Triangle. The two discussed the global and interconnected nature of supply chains, especially those containing chips and semiconductors between the U.S., China, and Taiwan. With the indispensable nature of chips and semiconductors for daily life in the 21st century, speakers raised the necessity and possibility of restructuring supply chains amidst rising geopolitical tensions. Audience members also posed questions and shared thoughts on national security, the future of Taiwan, export controls, supply chain independence, and the movement of global STEM talent.
