The Two Sessions: What Will China Do on Stimulus, Trade Wars, and Tech Competition?
March 6, 2025 — Experts from the Asia Society Policy Institute's Center for China Analysis (CCA) discuss the Government Work Report delivered by Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the opening of the National People’s Congress’s annual parliamentary session. CCA Fellows Michael Hirson and Lizzi C. Lee and Senior Fellow Guoguang Wu unpack the Chinese government's targets for growth, inflation, and spending, as well as other major economic issues such as stimulus, trade, technology, and foreign investment. The panel also discusses what the report reveals about broader trends in Chinese politics and policymaking, the stability of President Xi Jinping's political power, U.S.-China relations, and the Chinese government’s industrial policy priorities. CCA Fellow Neil Thomas moderates the conversation. (1 hr.)
