Maḏayin Exhibition Opening: Indigenous Peoples' Welcome Ceremony
NEW YORK, September 16, 2024 — Asia Society celebrates the opening of the exhibition Maḏayin: Eight Decades of Aboriginal Australian Bark Painting from Yirrkala with a special ceremony. Participants include Yolŋu delegation members Djambawa Marawili, Yinimala Gumana, Ishmael Marika, Gunybi Ganambarr, Barayuwa Mununggurr, Liyawaday Wirrpanda, Milminyina Dhamarrandji, Dhukumul Wanambi, and Mayatili Marika; and Lenape Center representatives Joe Baker and Hadrien Coumans, representing the Lenape people. The Maḏayin exhibition is organized by the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of the University of Virginia in partnership with the Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Centre in Australia.
