Cultural Encounters: Food Histories of South Asia
June 18, 2024 — In the second session of Asia Society India's Cultural Encounters: South Asian History in the 'Third Space' series, speakers highlight the role of food in globalization, preserving and reconnecting culture, and as a beacon of cultural confluence. Participants include Sonal Ved, author of Tiffin (2018) and Whose Samosa Is It Anyway? (2021); and Dina Begum, author and food writer of The Brick Lane Cookbook (2018) and Made in Bangladesh (2023). Saba Imtiaz, freelance journalist, researcher, and author, moderates the conversation. (45 min., 54 sec.)
Cultural Encounters: South Asian History in the 'Third Space’ is this year's edition of Asia Society India's annual summer learning series, which explores how cultural similarities, hybridity, and interaction have shaped South Asia.
