Two New Senior Fellows Join the Center for China Analysis
NEW YORK; June 6, 2023 — The Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center for China Analysis announced today the appointment of two new non-resident Senior Fellows: Dr. Lynette Ong and Diana Choyleva.
Dr. Ong, Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, will serve as a non-resident Senior Fellow on Chinese society. Her research lies at the intersection of authoritarian politics, contentious politics, and the political economy of development. She is the author of “Outsourcing Repression: Everyday State Power in Contemporary China” (Oxford University Press, 2022), “The Street and the Ballot Box: Interactions between Social Movements and Electoral Politics in Authoritarian Contexts” (Cambridge University Press, Elements Series in Contentious Politics, 2022), and “Prosper or Perish: Credit and Fiscal Systems in Rural China” (Cornell University Press, 2012).
Ms. Choyleva joins the growing economic team as a non-resident Senior Fellow on Chinese economy. She is the Chief Economist at Enodo Economics, an independent China-focused macroeconomic and political forecasting company she set up in 2016, and has written three books, including the co-authored “China’s Quest for Financial Self-reliance - How Beijing Plans to Decouple from the Dollar-Based Global Trading and Financial System” in 2022, “The American Phoenix — and Why China and Europe Will Struggle After the Coming Slump” in 2011, and “The Bill from the China Shop — How Asia’s Savings Glut Threatens the World Economy” in 2006.
Bates Gill, Executive Director of Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center for China Analysis, and Jing Qian, the Center's Co-Founder and Managing Director, said: "We are delighted to have Diana and Lynette on board. They will be especially critical in examining China's economic and sociopolitical trajectory, key elements for the country's future success. With the addition of these two world-class experts to our team, we further deepen CCA's 'inside-out' approach to interpreting China."
The Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center for China Analysis aims to serve as a leading global center for policy-relevant, objective analysis of China’s politics, economy, and society, and its impact on the region and the world, in an era of growing strategic competition.
