Audio Guide Stop #8: We Do Not Dream Alone Part 2 Introduction
Hello, and welcome to Asia Society Museum. My name is Michelle Yun Mapplethorpe and I am vice president for global artistic programs, director of Asia Society Museum, and cocurator of the Asia Society Triennial entitled We Do Not Dream Alone. Thank you for joining me today for a tour of Part 2 of this exhibition.
The Asia Society Triennial showcases some of the most exciting contemporary work from Asia and the diaspora. This inaugural edition features more than forty artists from twenty countries ranging in age from thirty-five to eighty-three.
The title of this exhibition, We Do Not Dream Alone, was inspired by the Japanese American artist Yoko Ono, who wrote, “A dream you dream alone may be a dream, but a dream two people dream together is a reality.” During this unprecedented time of racism and discrimination against Asian Americans, we hope that this exhibition will serve as a counterpoint to the xenophobia that is occurring across the United States and beyond. We also hope that the works in the exhibition will serve to promote greater understanding and dialogue about the experience of Asian and Asian American people.
We hope that you enjoy the exhibition and thank you for coming.
