Huang Ruo is a conductor and composer who draws inspiration from a broad range of musical genres—including ancient Chinese, folk, western avant-garde, experimental, noise, rock, and jazz—as well as natural and processed sounds. His works seamlessly mix disparate elements from western and eastern music into organic compositions, challenging preconceived expectations of a Chinese composer. His diverse compositions encompass chamber and orchestral music, and he has created music for dance, opera, film, and theater as well as sound and multimedia installation and experimental improvisation.
