Reflection
I was looking around for ways I could help with the community and arbitrarily found Asia Society Texas, which I did not know existed until recently. I chose specifically to volunteer with them because of my interest in Asian cultures, specifically in language and food. My love for learning languages made me want to connect and work with other people, but little did I know I would have the chance to learn more about people's cultures than I could have ever predicted.
My favorite moment was volunteering for Night Market, when I was helping at the drinks booth and getting to meet new people, as well as seeing old friends while preparing drinks for the busy night.
I have had the opportunity to learn how to network, supervise, and push myself to try new things while having an open mind to other people's opinions. I even had the opportunity to learn Korean from the Korean Level I language classes here at the museum, 안녕하세요!
As for those who may want to volunteer here or thinking about it, my advice is to do so. Getting the chance to meet many people from many backgrounds as well as experiencing events with artists like No-No Boy (a musician with a historian background whose songs were about the Asians living in the states) or the famous author Kevin Kwan (Crazy Rich Asians) visiting his childhood city, it has been a delight.
