How do museums benefit you, your friends and loved ones, and your community?
Asia Society Texas is participating in the nationwide Museum Social Impact in Practice (MSIIP) study, led by the American Alliance of Museums and funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
What is social impact?
Social impact: "The effect of an activity on the social fabric of a community and the wellbeing of the individuals and families who live there."
Compared to economic and educational impact, social impact is elusive and challenging to measure — which is why we need your help! Participation in the MSIIP study will help AST gain a more complete picture of how our exhibitions and programs enrich our Houston community.
You're invited to help us!
We invite you to join us and help measure our social impact!
If selected to participate, you and a guest will be given complimentary access to AST's exhibitions and/or programs at least three (3) times in April–November 2025. You will then complete a 30-minute survey to share how your experiences at AST impacted various outcomes. As part of your participation, look forward to enjoying:
- Free exhibition admission
- Complimentary tickets to programming (exclusions apply)
- Validated parking
- Pop-Up Shop discounts
Upon completion of the three visits and the survey, you will receive:
- Free AST membership (Household-level)
- $25 Visa gift card
- Credit for volunteer hours
- A gift bag of AST swag
By participating, you'll help show the significant value that AST brings to Houston and demonstrate the importance of arts and educational institutions across the nation. Together, we can showcase the vital roles that museums play in enriching our communities.
Ready to join? Please apply by completing our application form!

About the Museum Social Impact in Practice
The Utah Division of Arts & Museums and Thanksgiving Point Institute, with funding from the Institute for Museum and Library Services, facilitated the Measurement of Museum Social Impact (MOMSI) study in 2020–2023. MOMSI sought to understand if the survey instrument developed during two pilot projects to measure museum social impact was valid and reliable at a national level. Working with 38 museums across the U.S., MOMSI collected and reported social impact data to produce a validated museum social impact survey toolkit.
In 2025, 40 museums across the U.S. are participating in the MSIIP study, using the toolkit developed by MOMSI to measure and communicate the vital roles that museums play in their communities.
