Homegrown Houston Tasting Tour Curated by 'Top Chef' Finalist Evelyn García, Henry Lu Highlights Local Chefs, Innovative Cuisines

HOUSTON, September 12, 2022 — Asia Society Texas kicked off its fall season with a celebration of Houston’s vibrant food scene, featuring a roster of local chefs curated by Evelyn García and Henry Lu and whose featured dishes reflected the city’s diversity.
Fresh off a finalist finish in Bravo’s Top Chef: Houston season, García and byKIN HTX co-chef Lu headlined the tasting tour at AST. The festive evening invited guests to explore the Center's various spaces and meet the 14 chefs representing nine different restaurants or small businesses.

In the Grand Hall, EMA HTX’s Stephanie Velasquez and Nicholas Vera served Zacahuil Tamal while burger-chan’s Diane and Willet Feng prepared their GMA Slider, which had previously been featured on Good Morning America’s “United States of Burger Competition.” The upstairs Education Center hosted Dumpling Haus’ Ellane Won, Ashley Lai, and Amiley Lai preparing Spicy Sichuan Noodles; Street to Kitchen’s Benchawan Jabthong Painter serving Green Curry Brisket; Click Virtual Food Hall’s Gabriel Medina presenting Monggo Guisado; ChòpnBlọk’s Ope Amosu sharing the Golden Blok Pairing; and García and Lu preparing Salmon Ceviche. Dessert was served in the Water Garden Terrace, where Koffeteria’s Vanarin Kuch presented Goat Cheesecake with Blueberry Compote and Butter Baby Bakery’s Karen DeGuzman served Halo Halo Cake Shooters. Guests also enjoyed complimentary drinks by Asahi Beer and Desert Door Distillery.
