Grammy Award-Winning Singer Arooj Aftab Performs Concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre
HOUSTON, September 15, 2022 — More than 1,200 guests enjoyed a free concert by Grammy Award-winning singer Arooj Aftab, presented by Asia Society Texas at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The first-ever Pakistani female artist to win a Grammy, Aftab is also the first to win the new category of “Best World Music Performance” for her song “Mohabbat.”
Help Us Build a More Inclusive World
Joined by Darian Donovan Thomas on the violin, Maeve Gilchrist on the harp, and Gyan Riley on the guitar, Aftab led the audience on “a journey of sad and sexy music” while tossing red rose stems from the stage and noting this was her first time visiting Houston. Many of the songs performed were featured on Aftab’s latest album, Vulture Prince, including “Mohabbat” and “Last Night.”
The concert was presented as part of Asia Society Texas’ Muslim Series.
