Warrior Class: A Staged Reading of a Play by Kenneth Lin
VIEW EVENT DETAILSPartnerships & Collaborations
Mr. Lin’s incisive drama seems to suggest that American politics has become a game that has as its ends not so much the improvement of the civic sphere but the vicious thrill of the sport itself. – Christopher Isherwood, The New York Times
In May 2013, Kenneth Lin returns to the Alley Theatre with his newest play, Warrior Class, as part of the Alley’s New Play Initiative. The play centers on Julius Weishan Lee, a New York assemblyman who's been dubbed "The Republican Obama." The son of Chinese immigrants and a decorated war veteran, Lee has a seemingly limitless political career ahead of him. When someone from his past threatens to reveal a college transgression, Lee must decide how far he'll go to keep the incident out of the public eye.
In advance of the Alley’s fully produced version in May, Asia Society Texas Center will co-host a special staged reading directed by Wilson Milam and performed by actors Vito D’Ambrosio, Caroline Hewitt, and Nick Maccarone. Warrior Class is filled with what Variety calls “complicated people with both brains and psychological depth.”
Supported by The Brown Foundation, Inc., Houston Arts Alliance, City of Houston, The Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts, Bank of America, and United Airlines – Official Airline of Asia Society Texas Center. Presented in partnership with the Alley Theatre.
