Written over a thousand years ago by Aboqasem Ferdowsi, Shahnameh: The Epic of the Persian Kings, continues to enthrall readers around the globe with its depictions of superhuman heroes, magical birds, heart-wrenching love stories, and fierce battles.
Part myth, part history of a nation, the Shahnameh has been made anew by award-winning graphic artist and filmmaker Hamid Rahmanian. He has created an exquisite new edition featuring lush illustrations paired with a translations by Ahmad Sadri, professor of Sociology and Anthropology and James P. Gorter Chair of Islamic World Studies at Lake Forest College. Rahmanian and Sadri will share images and text from the book as well as discuss the continued relevance of this powerful classic for a new generation of readers.
Copies of Shahnameh: The Epic of the Persian Kings will be available for purchase (Asia Society members $65; nonmembers $75). A book signing with Hamid Rahmanian will follow the program.
