Screen Asia: "Margarita, with a Straw"
VIEW EVENT DETAILS“…an unexpected delight of charm and substance.” (Variety)
This inspirational love story tells of cerebral palsy-afflicted student Laila (Kalki Koechlin) and her journey from India to New York. Laila crafts lyrics and music for her Delhi university indie band. When the band wins a contest, the condescending host asks, “It must have been so hard for you; can you share something with us?” to which Laila responds with her middle finger.
In her search for new experiences, Laila leaves India to study at New York University, where she meets an inspiring activist and new, creative experiences. Margarita, with a Straw challenges the norm by presenting a traditional story of empowerment in an untraditional way.
