Screen Asia: "Gandhi"
VIEW EVENT DETAILS“There are few movies that absolutely must be seen… Gandhi is one of them.” — Newsweek
At the time of its release, the New York Times shared with optimism that Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi would “bring Gandhi to the attention of a lot of people around the world for the first time, not as a saint but as a self-searching, sometimes fallible human being with a sense of humor as well as of history.” After more than 30 years and countless awards—including eight Oscars—the film remains a cinematic masterpiece.
Asia Society Texas Center presents this screening in partnership with The Menil Collection as part of its initiative, Gandhi’s Legacy: Houston Perspectives, a city-wide exploration of nonviolence and the resonance of Mohandas Gandhi’s philosophy.
In collaboration with The Menil Collection. Asia Society Texas Center is funded in part by a grant from the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
