About the Artists
Supriyo Dutta is one of the finest vocalists in Hindustani classical music, celebrated for his soul-stirring renditions and mastery across a diverse repertoire, including Khayal, Thumri/Dadra, and Bhajan. A versatile composer, Dutta has toured extensively throughout India, Europe, Australia, China, and the United States.
Trained by legendary icons of Indian classical music, including Pandit Ramkrishna Basu (Indore Gharana), Padmashri Pandit Vijay Kumar Kichlu, and Vidushi Subhra Guha, he is currently under the guidance of Padma Bhushan Pandit Arvind Parikh.
Known for his deep understanding of ragas and intricate taal patterns, Dutta blends tradition and innovation in his performances. As a student, he was a National Scholar under the Ministry of Culture and received a Gold Medal from the Governor for securing the top position in his Master's degree. He has also been awarded the Gold Medal by the Sarbo Bharatiya Sangeet o Sanskriti Parishad and received many other honors. He is an impanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
A passionate educator, Dutta has dedicated much of his career to teaching and mentoring the next generation of musicians, ensuring the preservation of classical music heritage. His voice transcends cultural boundaries, earning him recognition as a revered figure among both connoisseurs and new listeners. About APAH Month at Asia Society Texas
Beginning in 2021, Asia Society Texas has celebrated Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with the Houston community and beyond through a curated calendar of events for 31 ways to celebrate over the 31 days of May. Spotlighting the traditions, talents, and contributions of Asians and Asian Americans, the calendar highlights the month's key Asia Society programming, providing a platform to showcase local artists, performers, educators, and leaders who contribute to the vibrant, multicultural tapestry of Houston while also featuring staff recommendations for our favorite music, books, movies, and more by Asian and Asian American creatives.
At Asia Society Texas, APAH Month is an opportunity to celebrate and honor Asians and Asian Americans and to uplift their stories to a broader audience as part of our goal to inspire our larger community to better understand one another through culture, conversation, and connection.
