Photography, Culture, and IdentityVIEW EVENT DETAILS
This educator workshop will focus on Asia Society Texas Center's current exhibitions, Portraiture Now: Asian American Portraits of Encounter and kip fulbeck: part asian, 100% hapa. Presentations will give an overview of photography and portraiture as art forms in historical, modern, and contemporary contexts. A larger discussion on identity and how we define ourselves will connect the exhibitions with cross-cultural methods of classroom instruction.
Workshop attendees will receive two hours of gifted and talented credit from the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT).

About the Presenter
Juliana Forero, PhD is the Director of Education for the Houston Center for Photography, where she leads the Educational Programs of its Learning Center. A native of Colombia, Juliana relocated to Houston from New York City in 2010 where she completed research on the role of the artistic community in the revitalization of the South Bronx for her doctoral dissertation. She holds a PhD in Arts Education, an MA in Arts Administration, and a Museum Studies Certificate from Florida State University. Prior to these achievements, she received a BFA in Photography and Digital Art from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia and a Certificate in Portrait Photography from the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico City.
