At Home in Asiatown Virtual Tours A

Explore Houston's Asiatown from the comfort of home! A feature of our Spotlight Asiatown initiative, the At Home in Asiatown virtual tours offer a chance to dive into the history and culture of a slice of our diverse city. Utilizing the Zoom platform, a local guide will showcase a series of stops highlighting a few features of Houston's Asiatown. Throughout the tour, participants are given space to ask questions and interact.

After an orientation to Houston's Asiatown centered on Bellaire Boulevard, learn about the history of Asians and Asian Americans in Houston. Next, learn about the Cantonese tradition of dim sum, including how and what to order from a range of steamed, pan-fried, deep-fried, and baked foods including dumplings, rice noodle rolls, egg rolls, congees, and baos!

In the final tour stop, engage in a hands-on, artist-led demonstration and activity such as papercutting or calligraphy. Get creative as you follow a local artist's instructions to create your own work of art inspired by different Asian cultural traditions.

At the conclusion of the tour, all participants will receive resources and recommendations for a future trip to explore and support Asiatown in-person.

About At Home in Asiatown and Spotlight Asiatown

As part of Asia Society Texas' Spotlight Asiatown project, At Home in Asiatown virtual tours celebrate Houston's vibrant and diverse Asian and Asian American communities. Created as a gateway to explore concentrated areas of AAPI-owned businesses and neighborhoods, Spotlight Asiatown highlights the stories of small business owners, dives into Houston's cultural history, and makes it easy to try some of the city's best food.
