ExploreAsia camps are designed to engage students with Asian art, culture, and history.
Manga has found a devoted audience of all ages outside of its native Japan because of its dynamic images and complex storytelling. While manga is known for genres like magical girls, giant robots, and larger-than-life heroes and villains, its origins go back as far as the 1940s. Campers will study the evolution of the medium and will explore the budding industries in Korea, China, and other Asian countries. We will compare eastern comics to western comics and explore representation of Asian cultures in each while learning composition and storytelling to create our own short stories. This camp is recommended for students ages 9-14.
