Join us for a memorable evening celebrating the rich history and evolution of Houston’s Chinatown and Asiatown. Held at the Shanghai Restaurant in Houston's iconic Diho Square in Asiatown, this special event brings together food, history, and community in an intimate setting.
Presented in partnership with the Southwest Management District and the Houston Asian Chamber of Commerce, the evening features a thoughtfully curated menu by Chef Ray Ng of Shanghai Restaurant, showcasing the flavors of Asian cuisine in Houston. Dr. Melody Li of the University of Houston will take guests on a journey through time with an engaging presentation on the history of Houston’s Old Chinatown. Through rare photos and compelling stories, she will highlight the transformation of Houston’s Asian communities from their early roots downtown to the vibrant Asiatown that exists today.
This event is an opportunity to celebrate the resilience, contributions, and cultural heritage of Houston’s Asian American communities while enjoying an intimate dining experience in the heart of Asiatown.

About APAH Month at Asia Society Texas
Beginning in 2021, Asia Society Texas has celebrated Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with the Houston community and beyond through a curated calendar of events for 31 ways to celebrate over the 31 days of May. Spotlighting the traditions, talents, and contributions of Asians and Asian Americans, the calendar highlights the month's key Asia Society programming, providing a platform to showcase local artists, performers, educators, and leaders who contribute to the vibrant, multicultural tapestry of Houston while also featuring staff recommendations for our favorite music, books, movies, and more by Asian and Asian American creatives.
At Asia Society Texas, APAH Month is an opportunity to celebrate and honor Asians and Asian Americans and to uplift their stories to a broader audience as part of our goal to inspire our larger community to better understand one another through culture, conversation, and connection.
