In 2022, Professor Muhammad Mohiuddin, MD, the trailblazing Pakistani American Director of the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Xenotransplantation Program, garnered international headlines when he became the first surgeon to successfully transplant a pig heart into a human. Since then, Dr. Mohiuddin and his team have completed additional transplantation surgeries using pig hearts. These pioneering techniques and innovations have since reshaped the landscape of modern medicine and brought hope to millions of people waiting for organ transplantations.

About the Speaker
Dr. Muhammad Mansoor Mohiuddin is a tenured Professor of Surgery and Director of Cardiac Xenotransplantation Program at the University of Maryland Baltimore, MD, USA. He previously served as Chief of Transplantation, Cardiothoracic Surgery Research Program, National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Director of the Xenotransplantation Laboratory at Rush University Chicago, while holding faculty positions at the University of Pennsylvania and Rush University. Dr. Mohiuddin has been involved in Xenotransplantation Research since 1991.
Dr. Mohiuddin received his MBBS (MD) degree from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan after completing his preliminary surgical training at Civil Hospital Karachi. He has also finished training and fellowships at University of Pennsylvania and the Institute of Cellular Therapeutics at Drexel University.
He is an Associate Editor for Journal of Transplantation and is the Immediate Past President of Dow Graduate Association of North America. His accomplishments include being awarded several NIH and non-NIH grants. Dr. Mohiuddin was named by Nature journal as one of the top 10 people who helped shaped science in 2022 and was awarded an honorary degree of Doctorate in Science from Dow University of Health Sciences.
