Emmy Award-winning artist Vân Ánh (Vanessa) Vo will take the audience on a journey to Vietnam through music — and the culture behind it. This performance of traditional sounds of North, Central, and South Vietnam will blend with modern Western soundscapes as Vo presents solo works and collaborative performances with Houston percussionist Craig Hauschildt and cellist Shino Hayashi.
About Vanessa Vo
Emmy Award-winner Vân Ánh (Vanessa) Vo comes from a family of musicians and began studying music at age four. In Hanoi, she was an ensemble member of the Vietnam National Music Theatre as well as a member of the traditional music group Đồng Nội Ensemble, which she founded and directed. She has since performed in more than 14 countries and recorded many broadcast programs in and outside of Vietnam. Vo strives to fuse Vietnamese musical traditions with new structures and compositions. Since settling in the San Francisco Bay area in 2001, she has collaborated with musicians across different genres to create new works, seeking to bring Vietnamese traditional music to a wider audience. She preserves her cultural legacy through teaching.
