Asia Society Texas Center Announces Inaugural Fall Performing Arts Season

HOUSTON, August 15, 2012 — Asia Society Texas Center, Houston’s newest arts and culture venue, is pleased to announce its Fall performing arts season, which features a vibrant mix of dance and music from some of the most revered and innovative artists from Asia and beyond.
Stylistically varied yet universally resonant, the inaugural season offers a diversity of genres with roots in Afghanistan, India, Japan, Iran, and Pakistan, to name a few. Highlights include: Voices of Afghanistan featuring Ustad Farida Mahwash & Homayoun Sakhi; Amjad Ali Khan, Master of the Sarod; Mythili Prakash; Zeb & Haniya; Dominic Walsh Dance Theater with guest artists Hana Sakai and Kensaku Satou; and Mahsa Vahdat & Mighty Sam McClain.
The lineup reflects the pillars of the Society’s mission to connect Americans and Asians for a shared future, and solidifies Houston’s status as an important gateway to Asia.
As Sabrina Lynn Motley, Director of Programs, shared: “Our inaugural Fall performing arts season harnesses the power of expressive culture to increase understanding of, and contact with, Asia and its diaspora. As we open our doors, we are thrilled to present some of the most exciting master and emerging artists from around the world…and block.”
The Fall 2012 season will also feature workshops and lecture-demonstrations. These audience enrichment activities will create deeper connections for the Center’s visitors and artists alike.
All performances will be held in the beautiful Yoshio Taniguichi-designed Brown Foundation Performing Arts Theater.
Asia Society Texas Center is hosting a special promotion for its inaugural season. Everyone purchasing a ticket before September 10 will have a chance to win a free pair of tickets to every performance in the season.
