Asia Society Texas Center 2010 Tiger Ball
HOUSTON, June 2, 2010 - Yao Ming of the NBA, Australian Ambassador to the United States Kim Beazley, and Houston Mayor Annise Parker were just some of the prominent attendees at the Asia Society Texas Center's 15th annual Tiger Ball, a gala event held here at the Intercontinental Hotel.
For 2010 the ASTC chose to honor the Commonwealth of Australia, a country with longstanding Houston ties, particularly through the energy industry. In addition to Ambassador Beazley, guests included Australia's Consul-General in New York City, Phillip Scanlan; Australia's Honorary Consul-General to Texas, Nana Booker; and Asia Society AustralAsia Chairman Hugh Morgan AC. Ambassador Beazley accepted the Texas Center's Roy M. Huffington Award for Contribution to International Understanding on behalf of Australia's Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd.
In other highlights, Houston Rockets star Yao Ming receiving the Texas Center Award for Contribution to the Global Community, and a benefit auction (including a Yao Ming-signed basketball) helped raise funds for the Center's activities.
