Learn More

Each week, we'll share a variety of videos, articles, webcasts, and more from around the web — all curated by Asia Society Texas Center staff to reflect the broad interests and goals of our mission. On Tuesdays, immerse yourself in music, dance, and more by innovative performing artists.

Virtual Dance Festival: Barnstorm Dance Fest

Barnstorm Dance Fest

Dance Source Houston's Barnstorm Dance Fest goes online for their 2020 festival throughout the week of June 15. Tune in for a series of performances by artists in a wide array of genres, panels with festival choreographers, and more. We're excited to see the diverse lineup; highlights include Houston-based Sri Lankan dancer Saliya Ilankoon and Saraswathy Lakshmivaraham, a Bay Area-based artist dancing Mohiniyattom, a classic style originating in Kerala, India.

Webcast: Art and Food: The World Eats Here and Chinatown Soup

Art and Food: The World Eats Here and Chinatown Soup

Join John Wang, founder of Queens Night Market, an outdoor summer weekend destination of food and culture inspired by his childhood visits to night markets in Taiwan; Storm Garner, coauthor of the new book The World Eats Here (The Experiment, 2020) that chronicles the Queens Night Market vendors' stories and recipes; and Timothy Hsu, director of the arts and community initiative Chinatown Soup, to share how food brings us together through memory.

This webcast airs live at 5 p.m. Central on Monday, June 15, and will be available for on-demand replay.

Rebroadcast: Resonance Reissue with Chris Brown and Vân-Ánh Võ

A performer who has lit up the stage at the Asia Society on multiple occasions, Vân-Ánh Võ is a composer and musician experimenting with modern sound using traditional Vietnamese instruments like the đàn tranh (zither) and đàn t’rung (bamboo xylophone.) See her collaboration with electronic musician Chris Brown in a digital rebroadcast of a series of concerts by San Francisco's Exploratorium. The museum's Resonance series explores contemporary music and new sounds through performance and interviews with the artists.
