45,000+ Year-Old Paintings Coming Back to Light in Indonesia

Indonesia Cave Painting Pig

In what may be the world's oldest known painting of a figure, a set of cave paintings on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia has recently been dated to at least 45,500 years ago. The artist Felicia Liang completed her #100DAYSIANS project, a durational project of colored pencil illustrations around growing up Asian American. The artist shares that she focused on "covering topics around my childhood, superstitions, Asian American history, and food. This project was transformative in rediscovering my cultural heritage and identity and has informed a lot of the artwork I've created."
