Contemporary Arts Museum Houston: A Counting
There are over 100 languages spoken in Houston. Whatever language(s) you speak, a new project at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston seeks to capture all voices and accents, especially those of marginalized communities.
The project is the Houston edition of A Counting by the artist Ekene Ijeoma and his group Poetic Justice at the MIT Media Lab. This remotely accessible, participatory public art project reflects on the linguistic and ethnic diversity of Houston by capturing "voice portraits." This artwork was created in response to the undercounting of non-white and non-English speaking people in the U.S. census. This collaborative piece serves as a meditation on immigration and assimilation in the United States and seeks to provoke discussion and critical thought around what it means to be "counted."

The Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston: Student Contests

The EGM is hosting a variety of contests for children in the Greater Houston area. Children create projects designed to create a higher awareness of the inspiring life and work of Mahatma Gandhi to promote universal values of truth, nonviolence, love, and service. Winners receive prizes and will be recognized at the "1000 Lights for Peace" event on Sunday, October 18, 2020.

National Consortium for the Teaching of Asia
Looking for short videos to embed into your virtual teaching lessons and modules? The National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) produced a series of short, classroom-applicable video presentations featuring topics related to the teaching of China, Japan, and Korea. Each class "app" focuses on a timely topic or "best practice" presented by an NCTA consulting scholar, seminar leader, teacher alum, or author.
Through the Cinematic Lens: Hong Kong Martial Arts Films
Since the early 1900s, films have played an essential role in the development of Hong Kong's culture and identity. However, due to the lack of preserving classic films and promoting Hong Kong's rich film history, many are unaware of how impactful films were in the past. Within Hong Kong cinema, martial arts films are considered the most representative of the city's film industry.
Learn about the political history of the Hong Kong martial arts film industry with a deep dive from Asia Society Hong Kong.
