China is becoming a major player and source of innovation in the digital world. Along with Baidu and Tencent, Alibaba now ranks among China’s best known and most successful tech companies.
On October 10, 2017, Asia Society Switzerland invited Duncan Clark – Chairman of BDA China and author of the bestselling book about Alibaba and its founder Jack Ma: Alibaba: The House That Jack Ma Built – to discuss what Alibaba’s story can tell us about how the digital economy has developed in China and its future. The discussion which was moderated by Sunnie J. Groeneveld – the ambitious founder and Managing Partner of Inspire 925, a consultancy specialized in employee engagement and digital innovation – gave remarkable insights into Jack Ma’s early life, ambitions and failures, the importance of the so-called “iron triangle”, the differences between Amazon and Alibaba, and the future of China’s e-commerce and the changes that China's retail and cash will experience along the way.
