A Conversation with Prof. Ralph Weber [PASSPORT MEMBERS ONLY]

Executive Roundtable: China’s Influence in the World

As China’s role in the world grows, so does its desire to influence the global conversation and tell a positive story. From “mask diplomacy” to “wolf warrior diplomats” to “influence operations”, what are China’s strategies to make its voice heard abroad and shape the narrative? How successful are these tactics? And what are possible ways to respond? Professor Ralph Weber from the University of Basel has done extensive research on the subject. He joins us for an exclusive luncheon conversation on China’s soft and sharp power abroad.

This event is for Passport Members of Asia Society only. How to become a Passport member?

Professor Ralph Weber

Ralph Weber is Professor for European Global Studies at the University of Basel. His current research focuses on Chinese politics (Swiss-Chinese relations, China’s sharp power and united front activities in Europe), Comparative and Chinese Political Philosophy, Modern Confucianism and, more generally, methodological and conceptual aspects of translinguistic and transcultural research and global knowledge production.
