invites you to a special panel discussion with critically acclaimed Asian documentary filmmakers on January 5th at the Downtown Independent.

4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m: Panel Discussion
Of the 15 films shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature at the 91st Oscars, five are made by Asians. Join us for a panel including the following filmmakers:
Free Solo – An intimate portrait of rock climber Alex Honnold, as he prepares for and then achieves his lifelong dream: to climb the face of the world’s most famous rock, Yosemite National Park’s El Capitan…without a rope.
- Jimmy Chin, Director, Producer and Cinematographer
- Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Director and Producer
Minding the Gap – Three young men bond together to escape volatile families in their Rust Belt hometown. As they face adult responsibilities, unexpected revelations threaten their decade-long friendship.
- Bing Liu, Director, Producer and Cinematographer
- Diane Quon, Producer
Shirkers – In 1992, Sandi Tan and two teenaged friends shot a quirky film on the streets of Singapore. Then the footage disappeared, sending her on a two-decade, two-continent, search for answers.
- Sandi Tan, Director, Writer and Producer
Won’t You Be My Neighbor? – An exploration of the life of Fred Rogers, a soft-spoken, yet powerful television icon, who aspired to be a pastor but found a more important calling to provide an oasis for children in a video sea of violent bombardment.
- Nicholas Ma, Producer
