On June 2, 2025, invited guests of Asia Society Seattle will gather at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) for a private tour of the Ai Weiwei exhibit led by Dr. Foong Ping, Foster Foundation Curator of Chinese Art and Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington. The guided experience will offer guests thoughtful insights into the artist’s work and themes, providing a deeper understanding of the exhibition’s context within both contemporary and traditional art. This special event reflects the shared commitment of Asia Society and SAM to fostering cross-cultural understanding, global dialogue, and community through the arts.

Speaker Bio

Foong Ping is Foster Foundation Curator of Chinese Art at the Seattle Art Museum, and Affiliate Associate Professor at the University of Washington. She began her career at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as Jane and Morgan Whitney Fellow and taught Chinese art at the University of Chicago and the University of California, Berkeley. Her 2015 book, The Efficacious Landscape: On the Authorities of Painting at the Northern Song Court, won the Joseph Levenson Book Prize. Foong helped lead an extensive effort to expand and modernize the landmark 1933 art deco building of the Seattle Asian Art Museum, and to envision its global future.
