Event Recap: Executive Roundtable on Insights and Analysis on the Future of US and China
On January 23, 2025, Asia Society Northern California hosted an Executive Roundtable on Insights and Analysis on the Future of U.S. and China. The discussion featured Robert Kapp, former President of the US-China Business Council, and Rao Talasila, Head of Machine Learning for Wayfinder Biosciences.
Kapp and Talasila shared key insights and analysis from the recent 2025 Future of U.S. and China Conference held in San Francisco on January 16, 2025. Kapp and Talasila summarized the conference into six main topic areas, including geopolitical frameworks, national security, business economy, investment climate, technology competition, and religious/cultural interests. Kapp discussed personalized versus institutional approaches to bilateral diplomacy between the U.S. and China. Talasila compared the U.S.’s capability for innovation with China’s capability to scale technology. Attendees added to the conversation, highlighting the significance of people-people relations, the renewal of the Science Technology Agreement, and the compliance cost of investing in China.
