Wendy Cutler: Confident U.S. & China will Reach a Deal
Wendy Cutler on Bloomberg
ASPI Vice President Wendy Cutler spoke to Bloomberg following Donald Trump’s remarks that he expects news on the trade deal with China in three to four weeks. Cutler states that she is “optimistic that both sides will be able to reach a deal” and notes that “it’s not surprising that it’s taking longer [than the original 90-day timeframe], particularly given the issues at hand, the seriousness of the issues, as well as their complexity.” Reaching a deal requires “give and take—both sides have to be able to go home and show how they’ve gained from the deal,” she continues, adding that, with tariffs in particular, “there are lots of ways to find middle ground on these remaining issues.”
