Mitchell Hayes
Special Assistant to the President
Mitch Hayes is the Special Assistant and Advisor to the President, the Hon. Kevin Rudd at the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) in New York. Prior to joining ASPI, Mitch worked as the Political and Economic Advisor to the U.S. Consul General at the United States Consulate General in Sydney, Australia.
He has also worked at J.P. Morgan and the Economist Intelligence Unit from Sydney, and at a New York hedge fund. His particular interests are China-U.S. and China-Australia relations, and the interaction of the international political economy with grand strategy. As a Spanish speaker, he has a growing interest in China’s relations with Latin America. Mitch holds an MSc in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, with prior studies at the University of London and University of Queensland. Mitch is from Australia and lives with his wife in New York.
