John Van Oudenaren
Program Officer
John S. Van Oudenaren is a Program Officer and Assistant to Daniel Russel, Diplomat in Residence and Senior Fellow at the Asia Society Policy Institute in New York.
Prior to joining ASPI, John worked as a Research Assistant at the National Defense University’s College of International Security Affairs, where he supported counterterrorism and regional studies programs, and researched various issues concerning the contemporary security environment. John has also worked at the National Institutes of Health and as an English teacher in Shanghai, China.
John has a Master’s Degree in Asian Studies from the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs and a Bachelor’s from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. John is an avid writer who has authored pieces on contemporary Chinese politics and East Asian security issues for both scholarly and journalistic publications.
